MOBA Name: Demigod
Release Date: 2009
Developers: Gas Powered Games
Demigod is an action Multiplayer Online Battle Arena video game developed by Gas Powered Games studio, who were also the creators behind the Dungeon Siege franchise, and published by Stardock studio for the Microsoft Windows platforms, and was originally released on this platform on April 14, 2009, in North America and May 29, 2009.
Demigod takes place in a world where demigods walk among mortals. However, the supreme ruler of everything known as the “all-father” has vanished suddenly, and now demigods across the lands must wage war against each other in order to attempt to control the world by defeating all others, and ascending into true “godhood”, hence becoming the new all father.
In Pantheon, players choose one from ten of these titular “demigods” available in the roster as playable characters. Each demigod has his own unique abilities and base attributes, along with distinct looks. Based on their base attributes and attack type, demigods are grouped into two categories: the Assassins and the Generals, with five being in each group. Demigods in the Assassin group have an action-oriented gameplay, and they specialize in attacking enemy troops and demigods directly to deal damage. All Assassins also have access to the Enhanced Attributes passive skill line, which supports their combat mechanics during a match. On the other hand, Generals have the ability to create minions, which provide support to team members. Hence the Assassins play a direct role in combat, while the Generals play a supportive role. Players must master the abilities and overcome the weaknesses of all demigods in their respective groups to create dynamic teamwork while using skill and tactics. This is vital for any match in Demigod.
In Demigod, players are offered multiple game modes that require them to complete certain objectives against AI or live opponents. The first of these game modes is the “Conquest” mode, and in this mode, players are tasked with destroying the enemy team’s Citadel—a stationary object at the bases of both teams, which are present on the opposite ends of the map—before they can destroy yours. The second game mode is called “Dominate” mode, and this is the Capture the Flag mode for Demigod. In it, players have to capture control points in the map for a certain amount of time, which gives them points. The faster these control points are captured, the more the point meter at the top of the screen will fill. The first team to reach 7000 points wins the game. The third game mode in Demigod is called “Slaughter” mode, and in this players have to kill 10 demigods from the enemy team before the enemy team can do the same. And finally, the last game mode in Demigod is the “Fortress” mode where players have to destroy enemy “forts” placed on their side of the map while defending those of your own team. The first team that successfully destroys all the forts of the enemy team wins the game.
No sequels, prequels or spin-offs to the game have been announced or released, as of June 2017.
